French salads group Florette is to open a new fresh-cut facility on Spain’s Canary Islands in an effort to bring its products closer to consumers in the archipelago.
Construction on the new site on Gran Canaria is expected to be completed over the coming weeks, with the first products likely to reach Canaries consumers by the beginning of December.
The facility will be supplied with vegetables and salads produced by a new cooperative society named Vegetales de Canaries (Canaries Vegetables), which Florette has established together with several local producers.
In a statement, Florette said the project was expected to produce some 2m bags of fresh-cut salad mixes every year, which will be distributed throughout the autonomous region.
