The first blackberries of the Dutch season have been sold by Netherlands-based fresh produce auction house ZON Fruit & Vegetables.
The 12 punnets of blackberries were purchased for €9.00 per individual 150g punnet by Venlo-based Impex-Heemskerk and were grown by Vossenberg.
Arjan Heemskerk, the buyer, took delivery of the fruit from Hans Berden of Sun Berry International, a subsidiary of ZON.
The proceeds from the sale were doubled by Sun Berry International and donated to KiKa, the Children's Cancer Foundation.
The blackberry variety in question, Lochness, was packed under the Venlo Fine Quality brand.
