The Spanish Federation of Fruit and Vegetable Producers and Exporters (Fepex) has reported that Spain exported a total of 152,749 tonnes of melons during the first half of 2008.
The six-month period saw exported volume growth of 12 per cent, Fepex said, worth approximately €133.8m – a 17 per cent increase in value on 2007.
Overall Spanish fruit and vegetable exports totalled 5.26m tonnes during the January-June period, a fall of 2 per cent on the previous year, the organisation reported.
These total fresh produce exports were valued at just over €4.5bn, or a 3 per cent increase in value on the same six-month period of 2007.
