The NYKCool vessel MV Belgian Reefer called at the Port of Philadelphia’s Packer Avenue Marine Terminal yesterday to load up with empty refrigerated containers before heading to Chile, where it will be loaded with the first fruit cargo of the season.
“The first journey south marks the unofficial start of the Chilean winter fruit season for the Port of Philadelphia,” said Leo Holt, president of Holt Logistics. “Upon return to Philadelphia, the reefer will unload a bounty of fresh fruit, including table grapes, blueberries, peaches, cherries, nectarines and other produce, that is a staple of our winter fruit season.”
Chile ships over 50m cartons of fruit through the Delaware River gateway each year.
