Southern Hemisphere citrus giant San Miguel has launched an investigation into a fire which broke out at its packing plant in Uruguay on Wednesday morning.
The company issued a statement saying: “At 12:24 am on Wednesday, a fire started in a pre-selection area of the packaging plant of San Miguel (Samifruit SA) in Young, Uruguay.
“Fortunately, the incident was controlled and there are no casualties. Material damage is confined to the pre-selection sector, and the main packaging facilities and surrounding properties are untouched.”
San Miguel thanked the emergency services and local staff for their efforts to control the blaze.
The packhouse resumed operations on Wednesday afternoon.
