After last week highlighting Spain's fresh produce export figures for 2015, Fepex has today (22 February) outlined the country's fruit and vegetable imports during the course of the past year.
The association revealed that imports rose 14 per cent in value, coming to €1.97bn, and stood at 2.59m tonnes in volume.
Imports from other EU countries grew by 11 per cent, coming to €810m, while fresh produce from non-EU countries came in at €1.16bn, up 17 per cent year-on-year.
From these so-called 'third countries', Morocco was the main supplier, with imports growing 35 per cent to €337m, followed by Peru with €125m.
France led the way in terms of EU suppliers with €255m, growth of 11 per cent, followed by Italy with €130m (-6 per cent), Portugal at € 118m (+7 per cent) and the Netherlands with €114m (+16 per cent).
