Spanish citrus industry association Intercitrus has announced the appointment of Felipe Juan as its new president, succeeding Anecoop president Juan Safont in the post.
Juan, vice-president of Valencian fresh produce association AVA-Asaja and himself a citrus producer, was elected as Intercitrus president at the organisation’s annual general assembly earlier this week in Valencia.
In a speech to delegates, Juan stressed the need for dialogue and consensus among all links in the citrus supply chain in order to reach agreements for the benefit of the whole sector.
During the assembly, Intercitrus revealed that during the recent 2010/11 season Spanish growers had produced 10 per cent more oranges than the previous campaign reaching 250,000 tonnes and 9 per cent more clementines at 200,000 tonnes.
