Spanish federation Fedemco and the AIDIMME Technological Institute are to hold a webinar this week to present Ecowoox, the first European certification mark for wooden packaging.

The webinar, which takes place on 14 November from 11:00-13:00 CET, is for all professionals and industry players in the wood packaging and sustainability sector. Attendees will learn in detail about the certification process and the advantages that this label offers to manufacturers and distributors.

Ecowoox is a pioneering initiative that promotes sustainability and guarantees the highest quality standards in the sector, being the only one that accredits the recyclability of wooden packaging.

“It is a unique trademark that certificates sustainable wooden packaging, developed in response to the growing demand for low environmental impact packaging, offering a reference that provides value to companies and a guarantee of quality for consumers,” Fedemco said.

“Ecowoox is already the European standard of reference for the sector, certifying those products that meet rigorous criteria of recyclability, eco-design and energy recovery. Its seal guarantees the recyclability of packaging and makes its benefits known to the entire packaging value chain, as well as to the citizen and the final holder of the packaging, including waste pickers and recyclers.”

Today, 80 per cent of wood packaging production in Spain’s fruit and vegetable sector has adopted the Ecowoox label. “This endorsement confirms the effectiveness of Ecowoox as a key tool to achieve the sustainability objectives of the European packaging industry,” Fedemco continued.

During the webinar, D Artur Vélez, vice-president of Fedemco, will describe how Ecowoox was born, and will introduce Dr Francisco Blasco, head of the environmental laboratory and the department of technologies and chemical analysis at AIDIMME.

“Since its launch, the European certification label has attracted the interest of large distribution chains and retailers who see this certification as an added value in their supply chain and a commitment to sustainable packaging,” Fedemco said.

“Webinar attendees will not only learn about the benefits of Ecowoox but will also get recommendations on how to initiate the certification process for their own companies and their contribution to compliance with the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).”
