The Chilean Fruit Growers’ Federation (Fedefruta) has elected a new president for the 2012-2014 period.

Cristián Allendes Marín has taken on the top spot at the association, replacing outgoing Antonio Walker Prieto.

Marín has been a director of Fedefruta since 2002, explained the organisation’s general manager, Juan Carlos Sepúlveda Meyer, in a press statement.

In his new role, Marín said he would place emphasis on strengthening the association among producers; promoting productivity and fruit quality; encouraging rural workers to fall in love with the fruit industry again; and boosting the marketing of Chilean fruit in its external markets.
