The Fairtrade movement is growing steadily in Scandinavia, according to a report from Organic-Market.Info.
More than 1,000 Fairtrade products are available on the Swedish and Danish markets, the European Fair Trade Association has reported.
In Sweden, 84 per cent of the population is reportedly familiar with the Fairtrade certification mark, while one in two claim to have purchased a Fairtrade product during the last six months.
Even during the current economic crisis, global sales of Fairtrade increased by15 per cent in 2009, according to Fairtrade Sweden, with growth in the country standing at 25 per cent.?
In June, Frederiksberg in Denmark became a Fairtrade Town, according to Fairtrade Denmark, making it the fourth town in the country, after Copenhagen, Bornholm and Haderslev, to do so.
Fairtrade Denmark stated that 82 per cent of the population believe it is important that goods bought by municipalities from developing countries are created under conditions that respect the environment and workers'living conditions.
