A group of 25 small growers in eastern Antioquia, Colombia, have become the first in the region to receive Fairtrade accreditation for their physalis production.
“This represents the culmination of a management model adopted by Caribbean Exotics more than a decade ago to enter into long-term contracts with small growers and train them in order to bring their production in line with quality standards like Globalgap and Fairtrade,” explained general manager Ana Gabriela Mejía.
A second group of physalis growers and another for passionfruit will shortly follow suit.
