Peruvian citrus exports rose to 64.8m tonnes during the January to October period of this year, with value up 30 per cent to US$53.5m, according to a report by Agraria.
The country’s citrus industry is continuing to break into new markets around the world.
Mandarin exports reached 36.6m tonnes during the 10-month period, worth some US$34.4m (up 46.4 per cent on 2009).
The main markets for Peruvian mandarins this season included the UK, which absorbed 11.7m tonnes, the US (with 8.1 tonnes), Canada (6.2m tonnes), and the Netherlands (5.2m tonnes).
Peruvian orange exports also rose 7.3m tonnes between January and September 2010, worth US$3.8m – an increase of 78.1 per cent on the 2009 period.
Lime sendings, meanwhile, reached 6.9m tonnes and rose by 25 per cent in value to US$6.1m.
