Expoalimentaria Peru 2011 exceeded the expectations of exhibitors and visitors who attended from 60 countries across five continents, according to a report by Andina.
A significant number of wholesalers, retailers, importers and international brokers from 60 countries, including the US and Europe, convened at the third edition of the agricultural trade show to discover new products on offer from Peru, said the nation’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, José Luis Silva.
“Peruvian eggfruit (aubergine), or lucuma, are unknown fruits in Europe and we are going to see if we can place it in the market,” Minister Silva noted.
According to the minister a Dutch consultant, with whom he had a meeting last week, told him that Expoalimentaria had exceeded his expectations.
Moreover, Minister Silva said that the success of the trade fair lies in the joint work between the public and private sector.
“The Peruvian Exporters’ Association (Adex) represented the private sector, while the public sector was represented by Peru's Chancellery, and the Ministries of Production, Agriculture (Minag) and Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur),” Minister Silva told RPP.
