Progreso Produce

Progreso Produce has cemented its position in the US market as a leading grower-distributor of US, Mexican and Central/South American produce thanks to a strategic expansion programme.

The 30-year-old Texas-based company has added new growing regions and products to its portfolio and recently upgraded its food safety systems, according to a company press release.

Planted area with onions has been expanded in Othello, WA, and Hatch, NM, in the US, as well as in Peru, while new products include year-round avocados from Mexico and Peru.

In addition, Progreso Produce has implemented a full-scale food safety upgrade to ensure all of its farms and packing facilities are GFSI compliant.

The GFSI upgrades include a process for continuous improvement of all food safety management systems and benchmarking for various food safety criteria; including proactive water, product and equipment testing, the company said.

“I’m continuously amazed by the continuous changes that drive the produce industry and I’m product to still be doing business nearly thirty years later as we continue to grow and advance based on our customer’s needs and requests,” explained Curtis DeBerry, president of Progreso Produce.

Presently, Progreso offers a year-round, onion and watermelon programme, sourcing from all major growing regions throughout the US and Mexico.

Additionally, Progreso said it is rapidly expanding its strawberry, blueberry and blackberry business with near year-round availability of blueberries and blackberries.

The firm is also continuing to grow its mango and avocado programmes.
