Gene Seroka has been appointed executive director of Port of Los Angeles, one of the busiest ports in the US.
Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti nominated Seroka on Tuesday, but the appointment is still subject to confirmation when it goes before the LA Board of Harbor Commissioners of 5 June.
“I’m confident that Gene will be a strong leader who will enhance our international trade agenda, increase reliability and efficiency through effective management and labour relations,” said Garcetti in a statement released by Port of Los Angeles.”
“I’m thrilled that mayor Garcetti has tapped me to lead the Port of Los Angeles,” said nominee Seroka. “I look forward to focusing our operations to provide world-class customer service while continuing to invest in a healthy and vibrant harbour community.”
Seroka is head of commercial in the Americas region for American Presidents Line (APL), owned by Singapore-based Neptune Orient Lines (NOL). Seroka’s career has spanned Singapore, Jakarta, Shanghai, Dubai and the US, managing logistics and sales for APL and NOL.
The Port of Los Angeles is one of the leading seaports in North America, generating more the 830,000 local jobs.
