Spanish imports of fresh fruits and vegetables stood at 4.3mn tonnes in 2024, an increase of 6 per cent on the previous year.

According to data from the Customs and Excise Department of the Spanish Tax Agency, processed by Fepex, 51 per cent – or 2.2mn tonnes – came from non-EU countries and 49 per cent from the EU at 2.1mn tonnes.

Fresh produce imports from other EU member states climbed 12 per cent year-on-year, while imports from third countries rose by 2 per cent.

In value terms, total imports came to just over €5bn, up 11 per cent, with 66 per cent of the value share came from third countries.

The value of imports from third countries stood at €3.295bn, representing a 12 per cent increase while those from EU countries grew less, by 9 per cent, totalling €1.706bn.

France and Morocco were the leading suppliers to the Spanish market last year, sending 1.1mn tonnes and 455,086 tonnes respectively.

The total import value in 2024 amounted to €5.001 billion, representing a year-on-year growth of 11%.
