The board of Europatat, the European Potato Trade Association, has announced the appointment of Berta Redondo Benito as the new secretary general of the association, effective immediately.
She succeeds Raquel Izquierdo de Santiago who led the association for the last six years. Benito holds a journalism degree from the University of Valladolid in Spain, and has a strong work experience in agricultural communication and European affairs.
She has spent the last two years and a half working at Europatat, and knows the members and is completely immersed in the culture of the association.
The role will see Benito represent and defend the interest of the potato sector at the European level and other international settings. She will remain responsible for all internal and external communications, as well as policy dossiers such as agriculture, sustainability and research and innovation.
Commenting on her appointment, Benito said: “It is a great honour for me to be given this opportunity to represent such an important sector in Europe at such an exciting time.”
'I am keen to embark in this new responsibility and continue the proactive work of the Europatat secretariat of the past years, always with the support of the members and stakeholders across the whole potato sector,” she added.
Gilles Fontaine, Europatat’s president, added: “We are delighted to appoint Berta as the new secretary general of Europatat.”
“Since she joined the association in 2018, Berta has constantly proven her value. We are sure that she will become an essential asset for the development of Europatat and the potato sector in the broadest sense. We wish her a great success in this new role, and we confirm that we will be at her side to take up this new challenge,” said Fontaine.
