Eric Viramontes has reportedly resigned from his position as chief executive officer of the Mexican Association of Protected Horticulture (Associación Mexicana de Horticultura Protegida-Amhpac).
Viramontes, who joined the Sinaloa-based organisation in 2008, is leaving to concentrate his efforts on his own company, Visiones y Servicios, according to a report by The Produce News.
He will be replaced at Amhpac by Arturo Díaz, who is from Sinaloa, who Viramontes said he a “good friend” and someone who is “close to our industry” having worked both in the private and official sectors at Sagarpa and in various private companies in the agricultural sector.
Although Viramontes is focusing on his own business interests – in supporting several organizations with projects to enhance relationships between marketers and growing operations – he told The Produce News that he will continues to be affiliated with Amhpac as a member of the board of directors.
Viramontes will also see through to completion some of the issues he has been involved in, such as negotiations for the tomato suspension agreement with US officials, the report said.
Amhpac represents vegetable growers and exporters in Mexico that grow product in greenhouses, hothouses, shadehouses and other protected growing environments.
