Sentenced to heavy fines back in March by the competition authority for 'participating in continuous price-fixing on the French endives market', professional organisations and the producer organisation (OP) for the sector have appealed to have the decision overturned, the Fld has reported.

The Court of Appeal issued its order this week, electing to suspend the execution of the financial penalty imposed against the 16 professional organisations and the OP of the endives sector.

This exemption reportedly covers 95 per cent of the sanctions imposed on Phalempin market and the total amount for the other structures.

'It's not often that there is a reprieve for 100 per cent of the financial sanctions,' Fld quoted a source as saying, suggesting that the final outcome could well be positive for the sector.
