Eurodix

Eurodix, the UK's largest independently owned citrus importer and a key supplier to supermarket customers including Aldi, The Co-operative Group, Spar, Morrisons and Budgens, has entered administration and is set to be sold off next week.

According to managing director John Hawdon, the Peterborough-based company, which has been operating in the sector for 40 years and also imports and supplies topfruit on behalf of several customers, the business will fulfill all of its remaining commitments before being wound up.

As reported in UK industry weekly the Fresh Produce Journal (FPJ), the last set of public accounts filed by Eurodix show it recorded a pre-tax loss of £533,486 in 2009.

Turnover at the business fell from £40m in 2008 to £24m the following year as the business deliberately reduced costs.

Mark Phillips of insolvency practitioner Pitman Cohen Recoveries said his firm was currently trading the business in an attempt to find a buyer, with several potential suitors having already expressed interest.
