Egyptian agricultural exports rose by 3 per cent from US$2.1bn to US$2.2bn in 2017, according to the Agricultural Export Council (AEC), Egypt Today has reported.
“The sector’s exports increased in December, reaching US$300m,” AEC’s chairman, Abdel Hamid al-Dermdash, told Youm7.
He added that the agricultural sector's exports accounted for 10 per cent of Egypt’s non-petroleum exports, with citrus, potatoes, onions and garlic recording sales of US$523.24m, US$270.38m, US$215.54m and US$335.03m respectively in the first 11 months of 2017.
Ten countries reportedly accounted for 65 per cent of the sector’s exports, with Russia taking the top spot with US$290.52m, followed by Saudi Arabia with US$286.68m and the Netherlands with US$143.41m.
