Plant health authority approves imports of Persian and key limes
Ecuadorean Persian and key limes have been authorised to enter Chile, opening up another potentially lucrative market for the country’s producers. The announcement was made after a recent meeting between Ecuador’s plant health authority Agrocalidad with its Chilean counterpart, the Agricultural and Livestock Service (Sag).
Limes join bananas, pineapples and mangoes amongst the list of Ecuadorean fruit exported to Chile.
Patricio Almeida, executive director of Agrocalidad, said technical cooperation between the two entities had been fundamental in achieving trade agreements, as well as the articulation of strategies to optimize the processes of certification and phytosanitary control in international trade.
During 2024, Ecuador exported 280,000 tonnes of bananas to Chile, along with 25,000 tones of plantain and 24,000 tonnes of pineapples.
