TheEcuadorean Ministry of Foreign Affairshas indicated to local news sources that the government is to explore the possibility of establishing new trade links with Iran during a series of meetings between the two nations.
The “Commercial Opportunities between Ecuador and Iran” seminars are currently taking place in Quito and Guayaquil in cooperation with Ecuador’s foreign export and promotion agencyCorpei.
According the ministry, the end objective is for Ecuador to open up new markets in the Middle Eastern country for bananas, fruit and vegetable-derived products, cocoa, fish and shellfish, among other items.
The ministry announced at the end of May the opening of an Iranian commercial office in Quito and a Ecuadorean office in Tehran.
The Iranian office is to be run by Majid Salehi from the Iranian Embassy in Bogotá, while the Ecuadorean commercial delegation will be headed by Stephenson Bravo and housed under the Egyptian Embassy in Tehran.
