Ministry of Agriculture green lights imports of Argentine lemons, sweet citrus fruits and bone-in beef
The Ecuadorean government has authorised imports of Argentine lemons, along with oranges, mandarins and grapefruit and bone-in beef.
The announcement follows the completion of the pest risk analyses by the Ecuadorean and Argentine plant health authorities and a series of technical exchanges to establish the phytosanitary export requirements.
So far in 2024, Argentine plant health authority Senasa has certified the export of 260,649 tonnes of fresh citrus, of which 44,561 tonnes went to South American countries such as Paraguay, Brazil, Uruguay and Chile.
The Argentine government is also in negotiations with its US counterpart to expand access for its citrus in that market. Currently Argentina can export fresh lemons to the US, after resuming exports seven years ago after a 17 -year hiatus.
