Exports of pears from The Netherlands staged a notable recovery during the first during the first nine months of 2010, according to new figures published by industry body Productschap Tuinbouw (PT).
The group revealed the country's pear exports had increased by 77 per cent year-on-year during January-September, reaching 162,000 tonnes.
The revival was reportedly driven by increased demand from Russia and the UK in particular, while PT also noted a major rise in the volume shipped to Spain, from 2,000 tonnes to 9,300 tonnes.
Exports to Denmark also doubled during the nine months compared with the same period of 2009.
'Pear exports to the United Kingdom in September 2010 were evidently higher than in September 2009 and in line with September 2008,' the group said in a statement.
