For the French port of Dunkirk, bananas from the French Antilles represent a significant annual volume of around 300,000 tonnes.
After 12 years of collaboration, the port and UGPBAN (the union of banana grower associations of Martinique and Guadeloupe) wished to reinforce their partnership, according to Mer et Marine.
A new charter was therefore signed in mid-January during the trade mission to Antilles led by Martine Bonny, the port's president of the board of directors.
This charter seeks to guarantee the quality of the loading operations at Dunkirk and highlights measures to ensure progress on sustainable development.
According to the port, there are plans to hold a meeting in Dunkirk soon to bring together all the signatories, including UGPBAN's president Eric de Lucy.
