Driscoll’s of EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa) has revealed that it isexpecting a peak in raspberry production for southern production areas 'within a few weeks'.
The group noted that, as a result of the good weather conditions in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, volumes are increasing earlier in the season compared with the previous year.
'The rising temperature in all of our southern countries is making sure that the raspberry plants are accelerating their growth,' explained Felix Blazquez, Driscoll’s forecaster in Spain. “Especially, Driscoll Maravilla is in Spain a very successful raspberry variety. It is known by growers as a high yielding crop with good quality fruit.”
The group said that it would aim to delight consumers through alignment with customers and berry growers.
“We invest a lot in our European breeding programme, because this is the base for bringing delight to consumers,' Blazquez added.'Every year, new promising raspberry varieties are launched, such as Driscoll's Margarita and Driscoll's Alicia, which have a lot of potential for the future.”
