Tom O’Brien will take on the new role as senior vice president of governance, external engagement and general counsel at Driscoll’s, joining the berry distribution company’s expanding global leadership team.
The senior role will cover contract negotiations, regulation, government affairs and intellectual property, with O’Brien well prepped for the role given his experience working as a senior official at USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service and as a legislative representative with Produce Marketing Association. O’Brien most recently ran a private practice representing food companies, trade associations and promotion boards.
President and COO, Kevin Murphy said he was excited to have O’Brien on board at Driscoll's. “His experience in the agricultural industry, extensive background, including particular strength in the regulatory and compliance area, and strong industry relationships will be of prime importance as we strive to become the world’s foremost producer of fresh berries,” said Murphy is a statement released Tuesday.
Looking to expand Driscoll’s presence in more countries, Murphy said the company’s focus is on the increasingly complex governance, regulation and legal issues facing the global company.
“Working with Tom, we are confident that we will achieve our goal to not only meet these requirements but do it in a way that is consistent with Driscoll’s values and mission,” he added.
