The Dominican Agribusiness Board (JAD) has teamed up with international certification company Agrocolor, the world’s leading GlobalGAP certifier for fruit and vegetable crops, to provide certification services to the country’s fruit and vegetable producers.
The service will be provided by Agrocolor Caribe a division set up recently to serve the Caribbean region.
This will give producers and companies in the Dominica Republic access to certification and auditing services from one of the leading firms in this field.
In a bid to boost its fresh produce exports, the Caribbean nation wants to ensure that its products meet the requirements and quality standards of the international markets.
It said the certification services offered by Agrocolor Caribe would be of great help for exporters to accredit production methods meeting the required standards.
In addition to conventional products, the country is also seeing an increase in organic certification for producers and exporters in response to rising demand from global markets.
Agrocolor Caribe said it would have a busy agenda in the country during the month of September as it aimed to learn about the needs of local producers.
