Dominica is considering resuming banana exports to the UK, two years after Winfresh halted shipments due to the spread of Black Sigatoka disease.
The Jamaica Observer reported that agriculture minister Johnson Drigo had met with industry stakeholders to help re-establish the country's banana export operations.
Drigo said that farmers would receive all the support necessary to restart operations, with inputs like fertiliser available at reduced prices, the publication noted.
Winfresh UK Ltd suspended banana exports to the UK in 2015 because of the threat Black Sigatoka posed to fruit quality – a disease that has been present in the country since 2011.
