French retail giant Carrefour has reported on solid sales growth of 2.7 per cent at constant exchange rates for the third quarter of 2013, up to €21.1bn.
In its home market, the group noted that all formats had posted year-on-year growth, with sales up 3.1 per cent excluding petrol to €10.1bn.
There was also continued success in Latin America, where sales grew 11.2 per cent at constant exchange rates to €3.7bn, with Brazil proving particularly strong.
Asia was another winning market for Carrefour, sales moving up 3.7 per cent to €1.8bn, driven by the group's Chinese performance.
However, European markets outside of France continued to battle against the difficult economic climate, with organic sales down 1.9 per cent – Spain and Italy seeing drops of 0.9 per cent and 4.6 per cent respectively.
