Dole FreshVegetables, a division of Dole Food Company, has announced a new long-termcontract with leading pallet and container pooling company Chep.
Under theterms of the agreement, Dole will continue to ship products on Chep palletsfrom its 12 facilities in California, Arizona, North Carolina and Ohio to majorretail and wholesale outlets in the US, Canada and Mexico.
Prior tojoining the Chep pallet programme in 2006, Dole Fresh used limited-use pallets,and determined the practice to be inefficient and costly.
During thepast three years, the company said it had concluded that the Chep system ofpooling and re-using pallets was more cost effective and environment-friendlythan other alternatives available.
“Dole takesits corporate social responsibilities very seriously and routinely deployssolutions like the Chep pallet pool to reduce the impact our operations have onthe environment,” said Bruce Hungate, director of purchasing at Dole FreshVegetables.
