Dublin Meath Growers (DMG), the €28m Ireland-based cooperative, is in the process of closing following the loss of its key Tesco account.
Although the society also supplied Marks & Spencer, that alone will not enough to maintain the operation, resulting in the loss of around 80 jobs. The cooperative consists of around 50 fresh produce farmers in the country.
Tesco Ireland, which took over 90 per cent of the group's available produce, has moved onto another supplier according to International Supermarket News.
'Other arrangements are in the making with another Irish company,' confirmed Seamus Banim, communications manager with Tesco Ireland. 'There will be no impact on growers.'
