It has been a strong campaign for New Zealand's kiwifruit exports, according to Zespri, with global demand for the fruit stronger than initially anticipated and returns climbing.

Zespri CEO Lain Jager told Radio New Zealand that the group was 'pleased' with the outcome of its marketing campaigns across the globe, particularly when taking into the account the challenging economic climate.

Returns for gold kiwifruit per tray grew by more than NZ$2 to NZ$9.90, although exports of all varieties of gold kiwifruit dropped from 30m trays to 22m trays, Radio NZ reported.

Jager said that sales to Europe and Asia had been 'robust', although exports to the US have fallen due to the ongoing Psa outbreak in the country.
