One of Chile’s largest fruit grower-exporters is reportedly set to globalise its operations with plans to expand across the Southern Hemisphere and Mexico.
The move comes on the back of local company Corso Group increasing its holding in David Del Curto from 41.5 per cent to 93.3 per cent.
According to a report by La Tercera, Corso executive director Julio Fernández said the company has a five-year plan, including overseas expansion, among other objectives.
“We want to be a reference not only in the region, but beyond the continent,” commented Mr Fernández. “We would like to be in other countries in the region or perhaps the world.”
Mr Fernández said Peru is an alternative source with much potential, adding that David del Curto is already looking into opportunities to plant avocados and/or table grapes in the country by 2016.
One of the options, although yet to be decided, would also be to participate in the H2Olmos irrigation project which aims to turn 38,000ha on Peru’s northern coastline into fertile land for the production of various items.
David del Curto’s expansion could also include South Africa, New Zealand and Mexico, the report said.
