US-based Sun World has announced that announced that it has moved to appoint Pandol Bros. chief executive David Dever as its new president and CEO, ahead of the anticipated retirement of Allen Vangelos.

Dever will step into the role on 16 January 2012, the group confirmed, when Vangelos retires to pursue personal interests, although he will remain a member of Sun World's board of managers.

On behalf of the board of managers and the entire management team, I would like to express our gratitude to Al not only for his leadership as president and CEO, but also for the hard work and dedication that he has given to Sun World,' said Christopher Parker, chairman of the board of managers. 'We wish him the best in his well-deserved retirement.

'Sun World's board and management team are confident that after an extensive search, David Dever is the right person to be our next CEO and we look forward to his contributions,' he added.

'I am excited to join the Sun World family,' stated Dever. 'Sun World's international reputation for quality products backed by a well-qualified and innovative team provides a great foundation from which to build. I look forward to working with such a talented and dedicated group of people.'

And the outgoing Vangelos added: 'I want to thank Sun World's board and management team for these last six years. I am proud to have been part of the company's growth and evolution into a premier agricultural company.'
