Logistics and freight forwarding company Damco has strongly denied rumours it plans to close or scale down any of its operations in the UK, in the wake of an accounting scandal which saw it dismiss the UK division's chief executive Aron Newton and chief financial officer Shaun McLean.
Speaking to Eurofruit Magazine on Friday, Damco Europe CEO Kim Sorensen said there was 'no way' the company would be closing any of its UK-based facilities.
'On the contrary, we are preparing to expand our business in the UK following a 20 per cent increase in the volume we handled there during 2010,' he commented. 'With freight rates rising too, our UK revenues increased at an even greater rate during that period.'
Damco is understood to have already identified a replacement for Mr Newton, with an announcement possibly due to be made as early as next week.
Damco's major customers in the UK include Walmart/Asda-owned fresh produce category management firm International Produce and retail group Marks & Spencer.
