Denmark-based logistics provider Damco has opened a new office in the French port of Le Havre in order to keep up with competition in the area.
The new office is Damco’s third in the country, alongside its branches in Lezennes and Dunkirk, with a fourth reportedly on the way this year.
Although small, the Le Havre office is crucial to the operations of Damco France, the company stated, since the port is the largest container port in the country, accounting for 60 per cent of container traffic entering the country.
“Le Havre port is a very strategic place and it is very important for us to have this office, which is also near the offices of customs administration, shipping lines and other forwarding agents,' said branch manager Laurent Clement. 'With this new office, we can now better compete with other freight forwarders and offer our customers a complete end-to-end solution.”
According to the company, the opening of the Le Havre branch is the first step in a 2012 strategy to give Damco a physical presence in all the main ports and airports in France.
