Spanish club variety licensor CVVP has claimed that it is making significant progress in its legal battles to sue producers who were ‘illegally’ growing its Nadorcott clementine variety, which is marketed under the Clemcott brand.
In a statement the Valencia-based organisation said that legal cases pursued over the past three years against unlicensed Nadorcott producers had resulted in 15 successful claims and 19 out-of-court settlements in CVVP’s favour.
As a result of the successful court action, the group said that illegal grafting of Nadorcott had been removed from 81,000 plants in 193ha in the regions of Valencia, Murcia and Andalusia.
CVVP said: “The numbers speak for themselves.
“All the demands lodged by CVVP have obtained results favourable to the licensees’ interests, albeit in first or second instance in the case of appeal, including firm sentences which admit no appeals whatsoever.”
