Spain’s Protected Vegetable Varieties Club (CVVP), the company that manages the Nadorcott variety in Spain and Portugal, says it has managed to eliminate the first illegal plantings of the mandarin in Portugal and receive financial compensation for its unlawful production.
“The Nadorcott mandarin variety is a protected variety in the European Union and in Spain and Portugal its production or propagation of plant material is prohibited without the authorisation of the exclusive licensee of the variety,” CVVP said.
It warned growers who have been producing the variety without the required license that it would undertake as many legal actions – civil and criminal –as necessary to defend the legitimate interests of the exclusive licensee of the Nadorcott variety in Portugal.
