CVVP, the non-profit organisation providing services covering the management, promotion, defence and development of protected plant varieties, has launched a new campaign to attract breeders and license holders looking for help in managing their varieties in Spain.
Up to now the club has been exclusively focused on citrus, its premium line-up including the well known Nadorcott and Leanri mandarins, the m7 Navel orange and the extra-late summer Primlemon lemon.
But manager Reyes Moratal believes the time has now come to share the experience and knowledge CVVP has built up over the years with the wider fruit business.
“Our business model is ideal for the management of varieties with lots of small growers and disparate production,” she explains. “We can provide a wide range of services for this scenario, including administration, license management, legal advice, marketing and help with inspection and monitoring.”
Table grapes and blueberries –both of which have seen a proliferation of new varieties in recent years –are among the sectors where CVVP sees the strongest potential to expand its membership.
As Moratal points out, “two sets of eyes are better than one”, and CVVP’s management model guarantees the independence and transparency that ensures that we are acting in our members’ best interests at all times when it comes to managing and promoting new varieties.
