Cuna de Platero is expanding its production base in order be able to extend its strawberry offer. The Huelva-based soft fruit cooperative has invested in a 5ha strawberry farm in the province of ávila, Castilla y León which will produce fruit between June and October.
“This allows us to extend the strawberry campaign which comes to an end in May in Huelva due to the hot climate,” said the company’s general director Juan Báñez.
“The temperatures in ávila during the summer are not as harsh as in Huelva and this will allow us to continue to produce high quality berries and supply our customers during the summer months, improving the service we offer and practically completing the annual production cycle.”
The company is currently preparing the ground and preparing the arches that will form the structures of the greenhouses.
Báñez said the new farm would meet the same sustainability criteria as the company’s production in Huelva.
“This is another step towards being able to supply consumers with fresh strawberries throughout the year, something we are already able to do with Adelita raspberries,” he noted.
