Organic fruit and vegetable distributor Cris-P Produce has announced that it is set to include KES Science and Technology's AiroCide PPT air sanitation technology for use in its Nogales facility.
The group, which boasts a product line including bell peppers, cucumbers, pineapples, mangoes, oranges, squash and tomatoes marketed under the Natura brand, is implementing the NASA-developed technology to ensure the elimination of airborne mould, fungi, bacteria and viruses as well as the removal of volatile organic compound (VOC's) like ethylene gas.
AiroCide technology operates by working in tandem with photocatalytic oxidation to destroy harmful airborne microbes, with the technology boasting a six-log kill rate for microbes and up to 99 per cent removal of VOC's, KES said.
'The AiroCide technology is an FDA listed class II medical device that is also used in healthcare settings,' the group added. 'The 'plug in and play' technology is also energy efficient, as it was originally designed for the NASA space station programme to successfully conduct astroculture experiments that required air free of mould spores and ethylene gas.'
