The 2026 event will take place in Mérida alongside the 25th Acorbat International Meeting next April
The National Banana Corporation of Costa Rica, Corbana, is to host its 10th International Banana Congress in conjunction with the 25th Acorbat International Meeting, on 20-23 April, 2026 in the Mexican city of Mérida.
This event will also mark the 60th anniversary of Acorbat (Association for Cooperation in Research and Integral Development of Musaceae), consolidating its position as one of the most relevant scientific organisations for the global banana industry.
“Celebrating 60 years is an opportunity to reflect on the great advances in the sector, but above all, to continue driving innovation in banana production globally,” said Dr Rafael Segura, director of research at Corbana and vice president of Acorbat.
The event’s agenda will include key topics such as innovation, technology, and sustainability, essential for addressing current and future challenges in banana production.
Costa Rica, as the organising member country of next year’s Acorbat through Corbana, is leading the planning of this special edition, in coordination with the Acorbat board of directors. Representatives from more than 40 countries are expected to participate, including producers, researchers, exporting companies, international organisations, and government authorities.
“For six decades, Acorbat has been an essential platform for science, technology, and cooperation in the banana industry. We are proud to lead the organisation of this significant edition from Costa Rica,” said Marcial Chaverri, Corbana’s general manager.
The event will feature a programme of keynote addresses, technical presentations, a trade show and networking opportunities, as well as business roundtables, promoting the exchange of knowledge and experiences among the various stakeholders in the value chain.
