Cool Fresh España claims to have become the first company to ship Spanish citrus to China. Following the arrival of the initial consignment of grapefruit earlier this month the company said several more were on their way to the Asian market.
The fruit is being imported and distributed by the Cool Fresh group’s Chinese division in Shanghai. Managing director Paco Serrano said the next step would be to expand the programme to include a whole range of citrus as well as other fruits.
The grapefruit was supplied by Murcian producer Biofesa and packed under Cool Fresh’s recently launched premium label BonJus, which Serrano said represents the “best that Spain has to offer”.
Cool Fresh España, the division of Dutch fresh produce marketer AgroCap Group, was created in October 2012 to supply Spanish fruit and vegetables to clients around the world. The company plans to supply BonJus-branded fresh produce to retailers in countries as far afield as Iceland and South Africa.
In addition to its anticipated rapid expansion in the Asia-Pacific region, Serrano said the company plans to introduce a range of Spanish products to the North, Central and South American markets, expand its programmes in Africa and the Middle East and start air shipments of Spanish-grown berries, cherries, vegetables and tropical fruit to various international markets.
