The Port of Los Angeles has released its October 2012 cargo volumes, with overall volumes increasing 0.82 per cent when compared with October 2011.

Imports decreased 1.07 per cent, from 368,842 TEUs containers in October 2011 to 364,881 TEUs, while exports decreased 7.10 per cent from 193,547 TEUs to 179,810 TEUs this year.

Combined, total loaded imports and exports for October decreased 3.15 per cent, from 562,390 TEUs last October to 544,692 TEUs. Factoring in empties, which climbed 15.66 per cent year-over-year, overall October 2012 volumes (718,406 TEUs) increased 0.82 per cent from 712,586 TEUs last year.

For the first ten months of 2012, overall container volumes grew 4.69 per cent to 6.9m TEUs compared with the same period of 2011 (6.5m TEUs).
