A contact group for French, Italian and Spanish peaches and nectarines is demanding emergency measures to manage the current crisis engulfing the sector, according to Végétable.

The group met in Paris this week in order to analyse the situation regarding the imbalance between supply and demand, which has resulted in a dramatic fall in prices.

Spanish fresh produce federation Fepex has noted a drop in consumption compared with previous years, in part due to the E.coli outbreak.

The contact group has therefore proposed that all calibre C fruits be withdrawn in the three countries, although an evaluation of global volumes would be necessary in order to anticipate the impact of such a measure.
