Retail giant Carrefour has announced the departure of its commercial director for the French market, Ignacio Gonzalez Hernandez, Reuters has reported.

The news comes a month after the company revealed plans to reverse its failing market share in France and restore the confidence of its investors.

However, according to analyst Espirito Santo, the departure of Hernandez, who held the post since October 2009, offers little reassurance regarding short-term trading on the French market.

'A new strategy for Carrefour's home market was recently set in motion, so it is not a particularly helpful time for a commercial director to leave,' the analyst told Reuters.

Carrefour predicted last month that 2011 profit would fall by 15 per cent. The retailer will report on its third-quarter sales on 13 October.
