Discount retailer Colruyt Group has opened a new distribution centre in Beersel, a move that will create an initial 370 jobs, rising to 670 later in the year.
The facility, which came at a cost of around €54m for the Belgian group, covers 59,000m2, of which 24,000m2 is storage and office space.
'The 60,000 square metres of additional storage space allows us to continue growing and opening new stores,' said group chairman Jeff Colruyt in company release. 'The site is also a sustainable, responsible choice, because here we take full account of mobility, liveability and the environment.'
The group opted for the Beersel location because of its central location in Belgium and fast connection to transport links with Brussels, as well as its close proximity to existing distribution centres in Halle and Ghislenghien.
