Germany-based liner shipping group Hamburg Süd has announced that it is to set up an own country organisation in Colombia, to begin operating on 1 January 2009.

The company, which will be named Hamburg Süd Colombia Ltda., will boast a head office in Bogota and a branch office in Cartagena, and will be responsible for all of the group's container shipping operations to and from Colombia.

'With the establishment of Hamburg Süd Colombia Ltda., the shipping group is taking into account the growing importance of the Colombian market,' the group said in a statement. 'At the same time, it will further improve and strengthen the relations with Hamburg Süd's Colombian customers.'

Separate offices in the country are based in Medellin, Cali, Baranquilla and Buenaventura, operated alongside long-term partner Messrs Eduardo L. Gerlein A.S.
